Leopold Shelton, until his death toward the end of the last century was the leading Maroon guide to the site of Nanny Town and led an expedition to rediscover the site in the 1970’s. Mr. Shelton who passed away at the age of nearly 100 years was the chief Maroon Guide to the Maroon Heritage Research Project (MHRP) from 1990 to 1997 ad played a significant role in the archaeological excavations at Nanny Town, Seaman’s Valley, Marshall Hall and in the mapping of the Nanny Town trails from Moore Town, Seaman’s Valley and Watch Hill through the rugged Blue Mountains to Nanny Town. Leopold Shelton will forever be remembered in the research history of the maroons of Jamaica. Leopold Shelton will forever be remembered in the research history of the maroons of Jamaica.
